I don't regret Utopia however since the first game I ever completed was made more memorable on account of the giant megastructure projects that took decades to complete. They are modular in nature, which means that a player can choose to play with or without a given DLC by checking them out at the launch menu. Unfortunately making sense of DLC features is pretty close to impossible without playing the Vanilla game, so I was once in the position of having to rely on the advice of others to purchase features that didn't make sense at the time since the sale was limited. I *think* that with exception to MegaCorp's specific mechanics (I have a permanently grey tab called 'Corporate' that I can't access since I don't have MegaCorp), just about all the base game mechanics are available, albeit in a reduced form without the appropriate expansion.įor myself, I doubt I could ever play without Utopia, but that is primarily because I started with that expansion (as well as Leviathan's and Distant Stars).
